September News updates
Organic Agriculture and Agroecology conference
NNF, together with NOA, hosted the second Organic Agriculture and Agroecology Conference on 6 August 2025, with a focus on stories of change and markets. Farmers and actors of change from various parts of the country shared their fruitful experiences in agroforestry, circular economies and local trading hubs. Progress on the Technical Working Group on Agroecology and Organic Agriculture was shared, followed by a presentation of the draft Action Plan which has been developed by the TWG. To encourage participation by various stakeholders in the development of the Action Plan, conference participants were invited to contribute suggestions for specific achievable activities in line with the plan. The next step will be to take the proposed activities to the TWG and finalise the Action Plan.

Voices for Better Nutrition-Multisectoral Roundtable Dialogue
NOA recently participated in a stakeholder engagement meeting hosted by NAFSAN, which brought together diverse voices in a roundtable discussion to present community perspectives, share lived experiences and highlight key challenges faced. The engagement was highly productive, with stakeholders from various ministries, including Health, Gender, Agriculture, and ICT, alongside other associations and NGOs, contributing valuable input on food security, backyard gardening, and information-sharing initiatives that support communities in enhancing production.

Agroforestry Workshop
In September, two introductory workshops on Successional Agroforestry were held in Okahandja at Humulus Horticulture Farm, facilitated by Stephan Eins and Wiebke Volkmann. The course focused on introducing the concept of Successional Agroforestry to participants through theory and various practical sessions. These involved observations of natural systems, modelling planting scenarios in 3D and finally, planting out trees, shrubs and various seeds on-site on an existing vegetable field as an example of setting up ‘tree-rows’ that form an integral part of an agroforestry system – in this case part of an ongoing vegetable production field. Participants were encouraged to take their learnings back to their farms to plan and set up pilot agroforestry plots, or at least integrate some aspects of agroforestry into their existing gardens. A follow-up session will be held in 2026 for pruning of trees and shrubs.

Field Day for the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources at Farm Krumhuk
On 19 September 2025, the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF), together with the Namibian Organic Association, organized a tour to Farm Krumhuk for Members of Parliament from the Standing Committee on Natural Resources, parliamentary staff and the media. The aim was to provide committee members and staff with first-hand exposure to different agricultural production systems and methods. They were also introduced to policy briefs outlining opportunities and measures that Namibia could adopt at the national level to strengthen the agroecology and organic agriculture sector.
